Great time with everyone last night. Let’s let the truths of communion settle on us this week: “we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones” (Eph 5)! Here’s the notes, and a few pictures I snapped.
First we looked at 1 Cor 11:23-26. Then our main text, 1 Cor 10:1-21, especially verse 16– this cup and bread are the “communion” (koinonia) of the blood and body of Christ…but how?
v.17 because we are all one body! (1 Cor 12:13 & 27) His body! Therefore, we are joined in one body, and the body is the body of Christ. We share in Him. We’re one with Him.
• the bread shows our oneness with each other
• the cup the oneness with Christ (the blood of the new covenant) we have a covenantal bond with Him.
v.18-21 The nature of the relationship with Jesus is exclusive. You can’t have two of these covenants…
v.1-13 You can’t share in idolatrous sins and in Christ.
Encouragement: Think of how High a bond is represented by communion.
Challenge: Realize that it means everything’s different now—you belong to Christ.
What doesn’t make sense in my life in light of this communion?
Examine yourselves — 12:28
We have been brought into a holy bond with Jesus and His people.
Let us cleanse ourselves from everything that doesn’t agree with that new bond.
And here are the pictures. Suffice it to say a first generation iPhone isn’t cutting it. We could use some real pictures of a Monday Night…[nggallery id=2]
