We regularly get asked for book recommendations, and one of the things I wanted to use this blog for was a place to catalogue those good books. So, with Christmas ahead of us, and the possibility that some of you might want to give a book or two this year, here are all the books I’ve recomended on this blog since it began last November. If you click on a title it will take you to the page where I discussed the book, and there’s usually an Amazon link somewhere in there.
(Note: I was recently told I recommend books that no one else can read… but really, there’s a lot of variety in this list, and almost all of them are totally accessible… really!)
- The Saints’ Everlasting Rest by Richard Baxter (Old, but really helpful.)
- Do Historical Matters Matter to Faith? by James K. Hoffmeier & Dennis R. Magary (OK, so this one might be a little tough.)
- Overcoming Sin & Temtation by John Owen (Old, but really, really helpful.)
- God is Not One: The Eight Rival Religions that Run the World by Stephen Prothero (Non-Christian looks at religion.)
- Canon Revisited by Michael J. Kruger (It has footnotes, but it’s not hard to read.)
- The Doctrine of the Knowledge of God by John Frame (Looks big, but reads fast. So good.)
- From the Library of A.W. Tozer: Selected Writers Who Influenced His Spiritual Journey by William Law (Mike Focht read this.)
- A Clear and Present Word: The Clarity of Scripture by Mark D. Thompson (A little academic, but clear.)
- Inerrancy and Worldview by Vern Poythress (Deep, important thoughts, for all of us.)
- A Life of Trust by George Muller (Everyone should read this.)
- Faithful Women and Their Extraordinary God by Noel Piper (Six true stories.)
- A Passion For Souls: The Life of D.L. Moody by Lyle Dorsett (Paper for American History 101?)
- The Pilgrim Church by E.H. Broadbent (Not good writing. But really good info.)

- From Eternity to Eternity by Erich Sauer (A fresh look at eschatology.)
- Isaiah by the Day by Alec Motyer (Daily devo through Isaiah.)
- Isaiah by Alec Motyer (In-depth commentary.)
- The Prophecy of Isaiah: An Introduction and Commentary by Alec Motyer (Shorter commentary)
